Fiery and Frozen Rend Lake

The late afternoon skies hinted at a potential fantastic sunset, so I drove an hour to Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreation Area on the shores of the Rend Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area, near Benton, IL.  Rend Lake exists due to a U.S. Army Corps of Engineer project which damned the Big Muddy Review in 1962, creating 162 miles of shoreline.  The enduring frigid temps created a frozen shoreline where a spectacular sunset made for a memorable evening.
