A1C William H. Pitsenbarger Statue No. 5

William H. Pitsenbarger was born in Piqua Ohio, became an Air Force pararescueman, and died serving his country in a heroic feat saving and defending the lives of 60 men on the jungle floor of Vietnam. This singular act led to the posthumous awards of the Air Force Cross which was later upgraded to Medal of Honor. Hollywood recently immortalized his life and sacrifice in a movie called “The Last Full Measure”. In 2015 and after several years of fundraising, the Friends of the Piqua Parks installed a life-size, bronze sculpture of William Pitsenbarger at the entrance of Pitsenbarger Park and Sports Complex.
