Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore lies in northern Michigan along the Lake Michigan shoreline. The park gains its name from a Native American legend where a mother bear and cubs entered the lake to avoid a forest fire. The cubs died but the mother waited for them. As tribute, the Great Spirit created two islands in their memory. This gallery captures a summer view as tourist drive along Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive.
