Long Nights Moon Over Carillon Tree of Light

Colonel and Mrs. Edward Deeds commissioned the largest carillon in Ohio and gifted the bell tower to the Dayton community when builders finished it in 1942. Today, we call the 57-bell tower, Deeds Carillon, which also occupies its place on the National Register of Historic Places. In a Miami Valley tradition, and with the support of Connie and John Taylor, the park decorates the carillon with 20,000 lights forming Ohio’s tallest tree of lights. In Native American tradition, they call the December full moon rise, the Long Nights Moon, as captured here rising over the Carillon Tree of Light and the Great Miami River.
